Setting Up Your Email Account in Outlook 2000

These instructions will help you setup your email account in Microsoft Outlook 2000, which is a part of Microsoft Office 2000. Customers' email addresses end in one of the following three domains:

  • clergy.net
  • ministersmail.com
  • spiritmail.net

Locating Account Configuration

First it is necessary to determine if Outlook 2000 has been setup in Internet Mail mode or Corporate/Workgroup Mode. Go to the Tools menu and look for either Accounts or Services.

If you see Accounts, Outlook 2000 has been setup in Internet Mail mode. Select Accounts and click here to continue.

If you see Services, Outlook 2000 has been setup in Corporate/Workgroup mode. Select Services and click here to continue.

Deleting Old Accounts

It may be helpful to delete old and incorrectly configured email accounts before adding new ones. To do so, first go to the Mail tab in the Internet accounts window. Select the account you want to delete by clicking on it, then click the Remove button.

Creating a New Account

In the Internet Accounts window, click the Add button and select Mail.

The wizard begins by asking for your name. Enter your real name here. When you email other people, this is the name they will see in the "From" line of your messages. Click Next.

The wizard next asks you for your email address. Type your complete email address and click Next.

Select POP3 server in the dropdown. For Incoming mail (POP3) server:

  • If your email address ends in clergy.net, use mail.clergy.net.
  • If your email address ends in ministersmail.com, use mail.ministersmail.com.
  • If your email address ends in spiritmail.net, use mail.spiritmail.net.

For Outgoing mail (SMTP) server (note: they are the same as incoming):

  • If your email address ends in clergy.net, use mail.clergy.net.
  • If your email address ends in ministersmail.com, use mail.ministersmail.com.
  • If your email address ends in spiritmail.net, use mail.spiritmail.net

Important: This is not part of this Setup tutorial. You will have to come back to this step. For outgoing mail you must set up Authentication. Once you have finished this tutorial, in Outlook, go to Tools, then Accounts. Highlight the appropriate account. Click on Properties. Click on the Servers tab. Check the box at the bottom under Outgoing Mail Server that reads My server requires authentication. Now OK out of the box. Now you will be able to send mail through our servers.

The wizard next asks you for the Account name (also known as your username) and password. If your email address ends in clergy.net, your username is your full email address, i.e. username@clergy.net. Otherwise, do not use your full email address as your username.

Enter your password in the Password box. Check the Remember password checkbox. Make sure that Log on using Secure Password Authentication is not checked. Click Next.

The wizard will ask you how you connect to the Internet. These instructions assume you have a dial-up account with WorldSpice. Select Connect using my phone line and click Next.

Select Use an existing dial-up connection and then select your dial-up connection in the list. Click Next.

Click Finish.

You should now be able to check your mail by clicking the Send/Recv button on the toolbar.
